{"id":3696,"date":"2020-10-09T07:28:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T06:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.negup.com\/blog\/?p=3696"},"modified":"2025-12-04T06:27:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T06:27:50","slug":"ubers-victory-makes-ola-happy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.negup.com\/blog\/ubers-victory-makes-ola-happy\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber&#8217;s victory makes Ola happy"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>\n<div class=\"wp-block-rank-math-toc-block\" id=\"rank-math-toc\"><h2>Table of Contents<\/h2><nav><div><div><a href=\"#olas-promise\">Ola\u2019s Promise<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/nav><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ola the Indian ride-hailing app company began its operation in the city of Cardiff from 2018, since then Ola has spread to other locations in the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Marc Rozendal, Ola\u2019s UK director said that they are working with TfL during the review period and to assure and address the problems raised in an open and transparent manner.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ola will take the chance to appeal the Tfl\u2019s decision and in doing so that their riders and drivers can rest assured that we are going to still operate as normal, providing safe and reliable mobility for travelling in and out London.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Last week, major rival Uber secured its right to continue operating in London after a judge upheld its appeal against TfL.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Uber the ride-hailing giant has been granted with a licence for 18 months to operate within the capital city, nearly a year after transport authority of London rejected its application, due to safety concerns and unlicensed drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the Court heard at Westminster Magistrates\u2019 they said that around 24 Uber drivers shared their accounts with 20 others which led to 14,788 unauthorised rides.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"olas-promise\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ola\u2019<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">s Promise<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Transport for London (TfL), the primary transport authority, has not renewed the licence of Indian taxi-hailing app company Ola over public safety.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/cabookie.negup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> taxi-hailing<\/a> app company has been operating in London since February this year.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">TfL said the firm reported a variety of failings including quite 1,000 trips made by unlicensed drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ola said it\u2019ll appeal the court\u2019s decision and has 21 days to try to do so. It can operate within the meantime, considering the appeal rules.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The transport authority said Ola failed to report the failings as soon because it knew about them.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Helen Chapman, TfL\u2019s director of licensing, regulation and charging, said that through their investigations they discovered that flaws in Ola\u2019s operating model have led to the utilization of unlicensed drivers and vehicles in additional to 1,000 passenger trips, which has put passenger safety in peril.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If they appeal, Ola can still operate and drivers can still undertake bookings on behalf of the taxi-hailing app Ola. we are going to closely monitor the corporate taxi company to make sure passengers safety is not compromised.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ola the Indian ride-hailing app company began its operation in the city of Cardiff from 2018, since then Ola has spread to other locations in the UK.
