By default\u00a0the website builder uses open source maps on the pages of your website. If you prefer to use Google maps, you need an API key to load your maps on your website. An\u00a0API key is a code that is\u00a0used by Google to track how often the map on your website is viewed.<\/p>\n

You will need a Google Account\u00a0in order to get the API key. Sign in<\/a>\u00a0if you already have an account\u00a0or Sign up<\/a>\u00a0to get you started. Beginning on June 11, 2018, Google requires you to\u00a0enable billing with a credit card to have a valid API key.\u200b<\/b>\u00a0For more information on using Google maps on your website please see Google’s User Guide<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n

Once you have an API Key you will need to save the API Key in the Settings of your Website Builder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Click Advanced<\/b>\u00a0Settings.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Click Google Maps.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Paste the Google Maps API Key<\/strong> in the provided field.<\/li>\n
  4. Click Save.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Click Publish Changes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You should see your map on the Home, Contact Us\u00a0and Attractions pages. If your API key is invalid or has stopped working, the Google maps will not load on your published website. If your leave the Google Maps API Key<\/strong>\u00a0field blank, your website will use the default open source maps.<\/p>\n

    Get the API key from Google<\/b><\/p>\n

    1. Go to\u00a0https:\/\/developers.google.com\/maps\/documentation\/javascript\/get-api-key#get-an-api-key<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    2. Click\u00a0GET A KEY.<\/b>

    3. Select Maps<\/b> and click Continue<\/b> from the next screen

    4. In the Enable Google Maps Platform window, enter a project name (optional) then select Yes<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    5. Click\u00a0NEXT<\/b>.<\/b>

    6. Select Create Billing Account<\/b> from the next screen
      \n\"User-added<\/li>\n
    7. Select the appropriate country, and then select Yes<\/b> for the Terms of Service<\/li>\n
    8. Click Agree and Continue<\/b>

    9. Check all details are correct, and enter a payment method before selecting Start My Free Trial<\/b><\/li>\n
    10. From the new page, select Create<\/b> and on the Enable Google Maps Platform pop up window, press Next<\/b>

    11. Google will now display your API Key<\/b>.
      \nNote:<\/b> You must first secure your key before you save the newly created API key in your Website Builder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \nThe key created is not restricted. Key restriction lets you specify which websites, IP address or apps can use this key to prevent unauthorised use and quote theft.<\/div>\n

      1. In the same window where your API key is displayed, click API Console<\/b>. This will take you to the Credentials<\/b> page.

      2. Under Key Restrictions<\/b>, select HTTP referrers (websites)<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      3. Enter your domain in the provided field.

      4. Click Save<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        You can now proceed to save the API key in your Website Builder<\/a>. Click on the copy icon beside the API key to copy the key.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        Warning<\/strong>: You must have a Google account with billing enabled<\/a> to generate a key for Google Maps API.<\/p>\n
